Bachelor Degree Program Core Curriculum

The General Education Requirements (GER) of Teikyo Loretto Heights University
seek to provide you with the basic intellectual competencies and knowledge
in the natural and physical sciences, the humanities, and the social and
behavioral sciences. Furthermore, the General Education Requirement promotes
an awareness of cultural diversity of the world. The majority (80%) of
the General Education Requirement (GER) courses are designed to be completed
during your freshman and sophomore years, so that you will be prepared
to choose a major by your Junior and Senior years
Requirements for the Core Curriculum include:
- 39 credit hours
in General Education;
- Students whose
primary language is not English may take up to 12 credit hours
of English as a Second Language (ESL), which are usually offered in
their first academic year;
- Upper-division
students are required to take 6 credit hours of international field
study courses (or demonstrate equivalent previous study experience in a foreign country).;
- Students will
take one introductory or survey course from one of the other majors;
- 60 credit hours
in a program with the minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0. 30 credit
hours out of these 60 credit hours must be upper-division courses carrying
300s and 400s numbers;
- 45 credit hours
of the total of 120 credit hours must be upper-division courses;
- Students will
select elective courses from approved program course lists;
- Transfer students
must complete the final thirty credits of their degree through TLHU:
- A minimum of 120
credit hours with minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 is required for graduation.
