English as a Second Language Programs

As a non-native English speaking international
student attending Teikyo Loretto Heights University, a large part of your
experience will be your immersion in the English language. Upon graduation,
you will be able to speak competent English in business and social situations,
as well as academic environments.

To help you reach this goal TLHU has established multi-level English as a Second Language Programs with an instructional program designed to increase your
knowledge of English prior to or during your degree program.
Based on instructor
recommendations, standardized testing and other testing, you will be placed
in the appropriate level of credit-bearing courses beginning in the first semester of your freshman
year or in one of TLHU's non-credit English as a Second Language Certificate Programs.

You may earn up to 12 credits in English language instruction towards
a TLHU Bachelors of Arts and/or Associates degrees. The courses that may transfer are 100 level courses listed as "ENG" courses in the TLHU catalog.
For those who wish only to improve their English and not seek a TLHU degree,
English instruction is also available in three certificate bearing programs -- Beginning, Intermediate, or Advanced.
